About this site

Geniuses, Artists & Poets (GAP) is a small publication about improvisation - the craft, the culture, and the people who practice it.

The name comes from a line attributed to improv teacher Charna Halpern:

"Treat others as if they are genius, artists, and poets, and they will be."

We like that idea. It’s aspirational, a little idealistic, and quietly radical.

GAP exists to give improvisers a place to think out loud. To reflect on shows. To explore theory. To talk about teaching, learning, failing, delighting, burning out, coming back. To write the kinds of things that usually only get said in green room debriefs, late-night conversations, or half-finished drafts in notes apps.

This isn’t a news site, and it isn’t an authority.
It’s a commons.

You’ll find essays, interviews, reviews, and occasional experiments, mostly focused on the Australian improv community, but open to voices and ideas from anywhere.

Some pieces will be polished. Some will be provisional.
That’s part of the point.

If improv is a practice, then writing about it can be one too.
